We are seeking a Kaiārahi - Tikanga Māori | Cultural Advisor, based in Whangarei. As part of the Māori Relationships Team, this role will provide technical advice and support both inside the organisation and beyond in relation to services for tangata whenua and provide advice on te ao Māori, tikanga o Te Taitokerau and on matters affecting tangata whenua.
As Kaiārahi - Tikanga Māori, you will work across the organisation and with Māori communities to facilitate and support Māori relationships with council through maintaining an understanding of views of Te Taitokerau in relation to the services council provides and communicate these and facilitate the resolution of any issues. You will also provide specialised advice and training to council staff on te ao Māori and te reo and marae protocols and more.
What do you need
You will be a professional with te reo Māori me ona tikanga, with knowledge and experience of working with iwi and hapū in a Te Taitokerau setting. With at least two years' experience in a similar role and preferably local government experience, you will have an in depth understanding of the Treaty of Waitangi in national and regional affairs, tikanga o Te Taitokerau and te ao Māori as they apply in a Te Taitokerau context.
