Biosecurity Officer - Kauri Dieback Support

The role

The Biosecurity Officer - Kauri Dieback Support position is part of the Kauri Dieback Team that aims to reduce the detrimental effects of Kauri Dieback on private land throughout Northland.

A primary focus of this fixed term role (12 months) is supporting the delivery of site management planning, audit and reporting, and investigating and promoting responsible biosecurity practices.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting the biosecurity team with planning and implementation
  • Supporting the biosecurity team with information management
  • Improving the awareness of the disease and assist in mitigating its spread
  • Supporting the Kauri Dieback Programme and carryout ground truthing
  • Assist with investigations and supporting the wider Biosecurity team

The position is based in the sub-tropical city of Whangarei, about two hours drive north of Auckland.

What you will bring

You will ideally have experience in biosecurity, horticulture, forestry or similar and have experience working with Maori and rural communities.

You will have a full drivers licence, be computer literate, and ideally have previous experience in GIS mapping.

You will have experience in pest and disease management and an understanding of biosecurity, Regional Council, or other pest management environments.
